Prune Damson (Shropshire damson)

- / per
The Lyth Valley in Cumbria serves as the epicenter of commercial damson production in the UK, where the Shropshire Prune, or its closely related counterparts, holds the title of the most widely planted variety.
While the Shropshire Prune is a robust tree, it falls slightly short in hardiness compared to some other damson varieties. Additionally, it may not be as prolific a bearer of fruit, at least by damson standards. Nevertheless, it is widely acknowledged for possessing the richest flavor among damsons, making it a preferred choice. In practical experience, however, some other damson varieties have proven to be equally impressive.
May be susceptible to plum aphid, red spider mite and winter moth caterpillar. The fruit can be damaged by plum moth caterpillars, wasps and birds
"Disease resistance: Good May be susceptible to peach leaf curl, silver leaf, bacterial canker, blossom wilt and honey fungus
Silverleaf: Very resistant"
"Climate suitability: Temperate climates Climate suitability: Mild damp climates Summer average maximum temperatures: Cool ( 20-24C / 68-75F) Summer average maximum temperatures: Warm (25-30C / 76-85F) Cold hardiness (RHS): H6 (to -20C) Summer average maximum temperatures: Cold (< 20C / 67F)"
