Herefordshire Russet Apple

Initially presumed to be a result of the union between Cox and Idared, subsequent genetic testing carried out by the Frank P. Matthews nursery, in collaboration with Hugh Ermen, revealed its true lineage as a blend of Cox and Golden Delicious. This places it in close kinship with Rubinette, another apple born of the Cox x Golden Delicious union.
Given that both Cox and Golden Delicious possess a subtle inclination toward russeting, it comes as no surprise that some of their progeny, including Herefordshire Russet, showcase this distinctive characteristic.
The amalgamation of Cox and Golden Delicious in Herefordshire Russet gives rise to an exceptionally pleasing flavor profile, as one would anticipate from such a pairing.
May be susceptible to aphids, including woolly aphid and rosy apple aphid, fruit tree red spider mite, codling moth and other caterpillars
Apples are one of the hardiest and easiest fruit trees to grow, but even so, certain diseases, insects, birds and weather conditions can damage the trees, blossom or fruit. So check apple trees regularly and take prompt action if necessary.
